People like that not you necessarily always have obscure opinions on widely accepted topics .. always rattle off some indie artist or foreign film as their favorite just to be different and only their opinion matters ... most truly cynical people are very close minded and have to be different just for the sake of being different

I rarely speak with any sort of finality or pretend to have a consummate opinion. I don't think my opinion is the only one that matters. It's actually the opposite. Playing devil's advocate, or giving 'obscure opinions on widely accepted topics' gives others a reason to question their ideas. Questioning is healthy, in my opinion. I'm only cynical in the fact that I think most people are ignorant. I do have a negative outlook, because my scope is large and what I perceive is mostly discouraging. The people you're talking about try to be different so they stand out. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, too. It's probably not always a positive trait.
