Default SEED

Beneath the earth I lie in wait for the sun so I may germinate
To break free from this restricted husk, to feel the sun from dawn to dusk.
The earth surrounds me compounded hard and deep, as winter’s rains in the soil seeps
Softening my robust outer case. So I may grow and secure my place.
Reaching up with a longing for life. Unaware of my futures struggle and strife.
I shiver and shake as I break through the soil. Two small leave carefully uncoil.
Gently swaying with the spring time breeze. Grow more branches, many leaves.
Spread my limbs high and spread them wide. Others just like me side by side.
Each one of us fighting for our survival. Unintentionally now each others rival
The struggle not obvious to the naked eye. We fight for sunlight, nutrients and water. Because without them we die.
We change direction to absorb the most sun. Rest our leave when the day is done.
With summer upon us and the sun beating down. Leaves may shrivel and fall to the ground.
Everyday a battle, need persistence and fight. Growth and development, no end in sight.
The leaves that have fallen are rotting below, adding to the soil in which I grow.
Pod like buds cover my stems. Like little chances, perfect tiny gems.
Each filled with the promise of a better tomorrow. From flower to seed a government embargo.
Now in full bloom perfume permeates the air. Flower colossi’s covered with fine hair
Branches bending due to the weight. Though my trunk is strong it stands straight
Eventually it will be my time. To return to the earth, become primordial slime.
Just like my leaves that had fallen before me. I will feed my seeds to help ensure me
The future of my species, the continuation of my kind. The seeds of my passing I will leave them behind.
Even though my life looked easy and so many of us grew. There were many battles going on, of which you never knew.
But even with the best laded plans, things can go a rye. Have you ever listened? Did you hear the plants cry?
Silently they weep, but like soldiers they carry on, waiting for the sun to sing its spring time song.
