Default Who here likes live music???

So , I went and saw Lil Jon do a set last night at this new club that just open and I must say, I was completely disappointed :(

For the record, I love live music and I'm pretty selective with who I go see and when I go see them. And last night was no exception. Now I'm not going to act like I enjoy any music that Lil Jon has put out in recent years, but I know there was a time in middle school where "getting crunk" was definitely the thing to do.

So I went into this concert expecting to hear timeless classics like "Bia Bia", "Put Yo Hood Up", "Throw it Up" and "I don't give a Fuck" just to name a few. NONE of those were played. This dude literally sat up there and did a DJ set for 2 hours with very little stage performance except the occasional "YEAH!", "WHAT" and "OK". To say the least, I wasn't fufilled. Thank God I was given free tickets to this place and wasn't willing to spend the $25-$30 it took to get in that night. Btw, this was this clubs grand opening and will be the last time I go there.

Now on to something more positive, Outkast is coming here to Voodoo Fest in October and I want to cross this off the bucketlist. Foo Fighters will also be there and they may be fun to see. But this is a concert I'm almost willing to pay for, thank God I have friends with connections because how it looks right now I'll also be getting free passes for this event as well.

All in all, who here enjoys concerts, festivals or just live music in general. Whether it's at the local pub down the street or some dope show put on at an arena somewhere? And where/when/who was the last time you went? I'm interested because I love the atmosphere of live music especially when the music is good.

Top 3 shows for me are (btw, list can change at any time):
- 3. Wu-Tang Clan (RZA gave my boy the mic and let him rap all of ODB's first verse to "Shimmy Shimmy Ya"
- 2. Weezer (first live show they played this year to kick off their tour and debut new music off new album)
- 1. Jay-Z/Kanye West WTT (bros... Can't even begin to describe to you what this was like. Plus it ended on Jay's bday. EPIC)

I dislike live music. Of the rappers I've seen, Ludacris was the best, followed by Common. Talib Kweli (circa The Beautiful Struggle) was not good at all.

I've seen eminem at slane castle and it sucked. His set wasn't long enough and the sound quality was horrid. Most recently I went to see kings of Leon about a month ago that was amazing. I love live music too bud

I love live music, I love festivals and I love concerts in general. I don't care if it's some troubadour playing covers, folk music or straight up rap/metal/rock as long as he/she/they are able to bring some kind of special atmosphere to get whoever is there in a great mood and is doing a great job. I hate DJ sets and playback though, shit's lazy as fuck and makes me lose a little bit respect of what they do if I'm going to be completely honest.

The past 6 months I've gotten involved with festivals in my local area, I've helped setting it up, planning and worked backstage for 3 events (2 festivals and 1 concert). It's mostly been up and coming Norwegian artists since the festivals in my area just started popping up 2 years ago and it's still in the process of getting started to get economy rising so we can book better and more known people in the future.
Yesterday Boney M was playing, that's the only world famous group I've gotten to interact with so far. Beside of that there's been some respected Norwegian underground rappers and things like that. I managed to get the first rappers that started to rap in Norwegian booked, they're considered legends for that and it was cool seeing them play specially since I had a hand in getting them there.

I think it's dope to help out with the local music scene (my city has been horrible with clubs and live music the past 20 years and it's finally picking up again now), get people involved and party/interact with people I otherwise wouldn't even talk to that genuinely loves music is something I can recommend to everyone.

Beside of that I love the atmosphere smaller clubs in Oslo, Norway possess when rappers come to them as opposed to arenas that can host several thousand people. When JMT played in a club that could only hold about 800-1000 people the atmosphere was crazy, and a lot of the people there knew the lyrics to most of the tracks. I saw JMT a couple days later at a different venue that could hold a lot more people, it wasn't even close to being the same experience.
Same thing when Necro came to a place that didn't hold as many people either. Odd Future was amazing live too, I saw them at Hove (huge festival in Norway) they had the crowd control on lock and knew how to entertain them. Røyksopp, Slagsmålsklubben and Deadmau5 although there being a lot more people managed to do that as well.

The only thing that's been disappointing live so far was Master P, Pharaohe Monch and Ghostface, not because they did a bad job. It was dope to see them and I'm glad I went, but most of the crowd was horrible and didn't even seem to know who they was.

I used to love going to live shows. But a couple years ago, I realized that everyone around me had cell phones and ipads up in the air. I could barely see past the people in front of me, and I kept getting elbowed by some 16 year old shit head trying to video tape the whole show in 3 minute intervals on his cell phone.

Best performance I ever saw was The Roots back in 2008, right after Rising Down came out.
Best full concert I ever saw was probably the first show I ever went to. 2003. Diverse. Oddjobs. Lifesavas. Lyrics Born & Joyo Velarde. And Zion I. Tickets were $12. I got there early and got to meet all the performers. Front row for the whole show. Too dope. Ive seen Zion I at least 4 times. They put on an incredible live show.

Last hip hop show I went to was like 2011. K-Os and Shad. dope show. But like I said, way too many assholes there trying to video the whole shit.

out of all live hiphop shows I've seen (which is a considerable amount), kendrick put on one of the illest and most involving concerts by far.

most rap shows are mediocre at best. i was most disappointed by Nas's set at a festival here last year.. but its a different skillset altogether and most great rappers are not great performers as well, which is a shame but thats studio magic for you..

Kendrick is ill. I've seen him twice now. Once on his own and the other with Kanye West. Kanye stole the show though.

Can't wait to see more in the future.

Never understood why people pay money to see live shows.

I much prefer just listening to recorded music.

Probably going to the Mad Decent Block party next month in Eugene. Freak Night for Halloween.. What The Festival was the dopest thing I've ever experienced in my life. Most of the concerts I've been to were dope as fuck though. Tech N9ne last October. Saw Rebelution again in April.. Borgore was complete madness for LIC.. Got some sick footage of that. Idk really what this thread was going for but yeah, festies are the tits imo.

Threads not really going for anything specific aside from who enjoys live music.

And the reason I love live music is because there's a difference in listening to something in your car/house by yourself than when you see someone you admire in the full glory of what they do best. The energy from the crown and the stage presence on the musician is bliss IMO.

One person I saw a few years back was Tom Petty. Now I'm not going to act like the biggest Tom Petty fan but I know some of his catalogue and was actually surprised at how much I knew when I saw him live. But as old as he is and as limited of my knowledge of his music was, I had a blast due to the energy and performance he put on. He wasn't jumping around on stage or had pyrotechnics, it was him, a guitar and live band. And the crowd was so into seeing a legend like him perform that I couldn't help but have a bad ass experience.

Same goes for other music I've seen. Except for Lil Jon. Very disappointed in seeing him live. Would rather see him perform than see him spinning records like a DJ :(
