Ironically I work in the canine detection business. A lot of police/military working dogs have a couple of specialties. Whether it be detection or tracking.

Some dogs are racist, some dogs don't like head gear or beards (there's a dog like that at the office) some dogs are even freaked out by small children . But there is a very true saying about a handler and his dog, and that is "whatever you're feeling is gonna travel down the leash." a lot of folk are unaware of how in tune dogs are with their owners. I'm almost certain the dog went after the person his handler felt was most suspicious.

funny sidenote about racist dogs though...

When i was younger I had a German shepherd... the dogs name was 'blackie'.. blackie was very racist (not bc the owners were but bc dogs r colorblind, and when the owners are white, they look drastically different from a person who is black) regardless...at the time we did not live in the best neighborhood, and blackie ran away, which resulted in my mom, and me in the middle of our apt complex yelling 'come her blackie'... the general population of the complex was not to happy about this, and explanation was required.
