my collection looks like that. I have a few more. but it seems your shelf extends to store more books that dont fit in the picture.

this is all I have at my house, about 1/3 of my total library. The rest is at my parent's house, but my place is too small
@The Mind Assassin I feel you - I try to keep tabs on my consumption and waste, but books are the exception. The only way they complicate my life is they take up physical space. Other than that, they help me simplify if anything.

Agreed. We have to keep it real and determine their collectibility versus our need to propagate to others the fact that we have read them

beyond that, I don't see them as being "collectible." Many books I'll buy, read once, and that's it. I'll either give them to others or, in some instances, they'll sit around and collect dust. my feeling is that I want to support the book industry one way or the other, so even if I buy a book that I only end up reading once, I've supported an industry that I feel good about.

I like the fact that I can have a library of refrence material if needed. I also like the idea of supoorting the industry.

I think that's fair. it's true for pretty much any physical possession or behavior. People who own New Era hats, guns, shop at Whole Foods, etc, all do these things to propagate an image.

in my defense: my house is too small to have people really come over and show off. but maybe I'm just trying to propagate a self-image for my personal sense of worth?

I feel you. I would imagine to you like to be seen reading or walking with books to imply you read?

Probably a little. I think intellectualls initially want people to know. Like their form of sports or art.

We have to chasten ourselves of this I would say. I read for my imaginations stimulation. I read for the morphogenesis of my locus of control into a more internal state from an external one.

I guess we should always question our motives is all. Maybe we are the same. Maybe you are better.
