Default should college players be paid?

Been hearing about this northwestern unionization shit and how they want to be paid. This is just hear say for me and dont know the specifics of the college players union. Hoping one of yall can shed some light on it. Should college players be paid tho? I dont think so shit they already get a free education, something others have to pay thousands of dollar for. What u think?

yes. but idk how they should determine pay. but athletics make millions for their universities, and there aren't that many meaningful scholarships around comparatively to the amount of people who play.

He gave up his scholarship as a senior because his dad makes millions of dollars and another player needed it.

You obviously don't know the circumstances and seem staunchly confident in your ignorance. Grant Gibbs was allowed a fifth year of eligibility surprisingly, which meant Creighton would be short a scholarship. McDermott, whose father is paid millions by the same university, elected to give up his rather than forcing his father to cut a recruit.

i believe they should, the tricky part is who all should be paid and how much. im not sure how it works exactly now. i think its just like your schooling is free if you have a scholarship. but you still need money tho, to eat, to live in general, get around etc.

but should a female volleyball player be paid? should i dunno some rugby player if they even have that in college be paid?

it should obviously be whatever sports are generating money, namely football and basketball. but there is always baseball too, but does that generate money?

and think about a college roster. its like 100 people. pay them all minimum wage, whats that like 15k or something, thats 1,500,000 right there. i dunno what a basketball roster and other shit is.

and if a big school like ohio state does it, smaller schools should have to do it too, like akron for example.

its just hard to see it happening, for big schools it seems obvious, but at little schools you could be crippling that college trying to pay athletes

im for them getting paid tho, espescially since the vast majority of them dont see the pros, and with something like football you have to give that the majority of your time and thoughts and energy, and you are putting your health at risk and probably taking years off your life, all under the flag of your school

a scholarship is great, but what about the kids who didnt get a scholarship but make the team? and if you pay them, and not the kids on scholarship, thats like punishing someone for being good lol

its too tricky yo

i don't see them getting paid anytime soon

The way I see it is others have to pay for college out of pocket or through loans/grants. Essentially athletes are paying for tuition by playing sports that's making the college money, and they're getting an education in case they don't go into professional sports. Also like uh oh said small colleges wouldn't be able to pay their athletes as much so big time schools would control college sports even more. So my answer is no.

But athletes without scholarships that are playing should at least get free tuition.

You are being ignorant by speaking about a situation you don't understand. That's what ignorance is.

They reimburse players by giving them an education and an opportunity to play in the pros. Shit what happened to the love of the game. They have been doing college the same way for years why change it now when the formula has always worked.

Yes, and every Division I basketball team (that's not on sanctions) has 15 full scholarships to offer its 15-man (or -woman) roster. Doug McDermott gave up his scholarship voluntarily to allow his father to circumvent that roster limit.

Bro.
