Default What function do dreams hold in the mind?

Of course no one really knows... but what do u think?

I've heard from an evolutionary standpoint (I think it was on like, V sauce or some TED convention) dreams play a part in preparing us for the following days tragedies, being that dreams often have a negative connotation. That seems far fetched/stoopid to me though.

Maybe dreams are our subconscious interpretation of the transcendent (lol, na)

Or maybe just our brain going over what happened during the day.

I dunno, what do you know?! Fuck you...

What if dreams are actually not dreams at all? What if life is the real dream and we wake up only to tire ourselves for sleep?

so look at a clock while dreaming -- you'll see it either stopped, going backwards -- or showing up with weird symbols and shit... something that "triggers" that you are dreaming.

some will wake up immediately until they are used to 'riding the wave' --- but eventually, you will find what we will all find, at some 'point in time' :)
you quoted yourself to agree with yourself?

also, you cannot read/ visualize symbols correctly in your dreams. If you ever lucid dream, try it. Shit looks like its written in Hylian

haha man, i am glad you pointed that out - because quoting myself to agree with myself is fucking awesome, and i look forward to doing it more often!

i THINK i was tryna respond to Zen's post re: 'what if the dreams arent dreams, but we wake up just to tire to sleep' -- OR to Geno's point about dreams recreating different parts of our day/etc in different orders

pretty much any post on that page woulda made sense to quote and talk about 'time' OTHER than mine haha... but fuck, i dont know...i was in the zone there and might have triggered a convo between me and myself.

word up --- have you had that moment RIGHT before too, where you actually acknowledge that you THINK you're reading because you just "understand" whatever it is your processing, but then finally see that it isn't normal language/order/letters/etc.? that's one of the more interesting moments in the 'ol dream scape from my perspective lol

A scientific explanation that I've heard, suggests that dreams are our everyday thought.. weather consciensly, or subconsciously thought about -being played out as a movie while we sleep. Often times all jumbled up and pieced together from this thought to that thought compiled into one big cluster fuck.

Its basically liiving out your thoughts in a random unorganized film.

There are people who can go without sleep for weeks or longer with no noticeable effects.

Go without sleep or go without dreaming?

Choose your words wisely, my young son.

Entertainment while sleeping
also the average number of dreams can be from 50-100 per night, but we only remember 1 or 2

eh, they just guess shit man

we just forget how to remember.

that moment where you see a "pop can" the next morning and remember 1 dream, and that one dream brings you back to a whole other dream/experience...

i will never trust external stats when it comes to dreams -- and im a statistician lol

right bro, but there was also a show that said america was discovered in 1842...

cognitive psychology is my favorite subject matter man, and it would argue your point as well --- but it's subject matter argues against itself as well...

its conflicted in terms of memory -- our ability to retain memories through external stimuli is not the same from 'within'... 'within' is, in some ways, more difficult, because we "think about remembering" when we are awake more than we do when we are asleep

nevertheless ---- learn how to balance the transition between brainwave levels, and you can absolutely recall more than 1-2 dreams per night.... in fact, if you practice meditation/etc (which gets you closer to the same brainwave level), you can learn how to remember enough dreams that you stop discerning between the differences...

macro and microcosms... at some point those 50 dreams transition and bleed into 1-2 anyway... from ya gradmas house to floating in space, was that one, two, or 3 hundred dreams apart? you know?
