Why does everybody post battle verses, last minute?

They scurred their verse is gonna get ripped apart?

I pour my shit out first, well in advance of deadlines. I get it that people have real lives, but waiting till the last seconds is ridiculous.


As a side note of positivity, I really liked how @Sharp Nine had everybody vote 4-5 times & post their votes in the newb tournament. Totally made fake voting problematic for people who have multiple accounts. I also dig how he chose the match-ups, matching people with similar styles & potential.

tbh when i was you8nger, in used to think posting late/second gave you an advantage because if you posted early - the thread would get upped and ppl would click on the thread and read your verse early... so IF you posted first, ppl will ahve already read your shit and your opponents will seem fresher in the eyes of the voters

i mostly only fuck with topicals these days, but with both i almost always post early

nowadays i just edit my verses into my check in posts so it doesnt up the thread

in the early days I would post early all the time

later days I posted on the deadline because I was over text battling that I couldn't motivate myself until the deadline approached

I'm busy and I only write a few concepts through the week before the deadline. Then literally an hour or so before the deadline, I write everything.

Why not try and use the time-limit to wrtie a better verse than drop asap?
When writing battle bars you have to learn to write backwards,
by this I mean you need to come up with your punch concept first and
then workout how to best word it. After that you get the chance to workout
the rhymes, schemes and set-up for your punch.

For example Muzzle:

In the last battle I wrote (which you voted against, against everyone else)
" He's prepubescent, got no cash, dope or weapons, he's just a fuckin kid,
If he's growing a 'stashe'... it's just the bum-fluff on his upper-lip."

Not a great bar, but I started with the wordplay concept of 'growing a stash'
mulled over it a while and added the bumfluff-lip bit, this probably wasn't the best way
this concept could have been delivered but I was under a time-limit and went with it.
Next I got to rhyme the bum-fluff upper lip and came up with just a dumb fucking kid. Not perfect nut it fits the theme, then the set-up saying he's prepubescent ie, hasnt got a stash and that he hasnt got any guns, cash or weapons, to form a small weak internal rhyme, which is also a precurser to the overall punch.

So you can see this wasnt a spontansiously written line, it could have taken me 15 minutes to think out my entire 2 bars here...

take a little bit more time with your work and you might find rewards.

@Plot -- I see what you're saying. Very insightful answer. The "reverse rhyme writing" was the most helpful comment.

I know people work out their ideas over time and put them together within a time limit... but I still think some people post at the last minute so that their battle can't be counter-attacked as well. I mean, if I see what you posted on Monday; and I have until Friday midnight to post... I'm probly gonna rip your shit to threads if I have any talent whatsoever... unless your early post was unbeatable by my talent & ability to structurally rip it up.
@sraL -- I see your point as well. Posting early will get more views, but then the response will sound more new and fresh.


I guess it goes both ways, but I see hella people waiting until the last few minutes to post... and thats kind of stupid. I mean, for example, in the newbs tournament, I would have voted on battles prior to the deadline... but since massive power outages affected me for 2 days... after shit was posted, I had little to read & vote/comment on.

I'm gonna keep posting my shit as early as I can, because you never know what can come up in life and prevent you from posting @ last minute. If they want to take my lines and shred them to pieces, thats cool.

I want to get more into topicals. I'm not sure how to do so. I feel like battles generates some negativity, even though I am humble, it effects me... especially after all of the flaming. I still remain humble, but if I'm gonna battle... I'm definitely gonna battle the best I can, which may not be good enough for people here... since I use 1-2 syllable rhymes... what they lack to see is that words all over the place can rhyme, and if you spit it the way the writer imagined it being spit... then it could be tight --- vs a reader will read it and not know what the emcee was thinking as far as placement of words on beats.

See Muzz, the beauty of text battling is when you send someone a blaster.
Or, well a few, this is where you get great satisfaction in this format.
And it is easily doable, if you basically follow what I said and add a few things.
You check out your opponent, his name for nameflips and his basic persona..
If hes hispanic what or ehat ever to make your disses hurt him. and then theres looking at current events on the site, (see how a few puches last rounf involved YOU as a punch) ... the success feeling in this format of battle is not in scripting a lovley sounding piece, but if you can do that then hats off more to you, its in dissing your opponent so much that the voters think you insulted him off the site.

I see your point, and Sharp told me the same shit when I fed him some verses that I had written... he said they weren't insulting enough. When I see a battle, I don't necessarily look at who clowned or insulted the most; but I look at the over-all verses and how they were put together. I'm starting to understand now that you've gotta insult your opponent, but from what I've seen, at least 70% of the people on here don't have any links or posts that connect to their real life; so digging up shit is irrelevant to me. I suppose I could judge somebody as hispanic, black, or white... based on reading their posts, but I refuse to post lies about their personal life... I'd rather keep insults at "I fucked your baby" or "I slapped your Mom's fat ass"... seems more jolly, that way... plus people have way too much ammo against me in a battle based on the fact that I posted my true identity and hip hop is not my main focus, as far as genres... and 90% of people on this site don't post who they really are. I know some bad ass emcee's, but I'm just a white dude who writes beats and can master tracks.




BTW, if anyone wants me to master a track for them... I am willing to do it for a small amount of pay. Most engineers charge $20-40 an hour, but I can work something out for you. PM me if interested.
