Me personally...Ive got a looped CD of the x files theme instrumental with the sounds of a thousand angels farting mixed with light saber movements and an assembly of nanobots resonating hum inside the belly of a billy goat. I usually have it on mute while I write.

I usually need something gritty to listen to, instrumentals or lyrics, cannibal ox, el-p, Aesop, etc. I've been obsessed with Cannibal Ox - Pigeon. The instrumental is uploaded on youtube also.
