if we take a step back and break shit down rather than rely on experience alone...

At the end of the day --- the only things we "LIKE" in life can be boiled down to:
1. dopamine
2. serotinin

any external stimuli which can influence dopamine or serotonine levels can be considered a drug.

Sound is a powerful thing which we've neglected in Western culture.... but if you look at history, it was a much more prominent. (i did not look at this article yet, but I assume that the e-drugs have to do with sound -- or maybe visuals i suppose).

even consider the concept of the sound "Ohm" and the history of it... it's not just an eastern cultural thing, if you say it in any form of focused meditation -- even for like 30 seconds --- you can feel the 'energy rise' from within you, and work it's way from your base to your head, literally having that 'energy' pool within you..... this concept relates well to many others, from "Tai Chi" to Chakras, to the allusion of "the force" star wars to other similar pop culture derivatives.

All external sources are essentially just "inputs" which we process through our senses --- those 'parameters' are processed and impacts us internally from there.

We're just used to thinking about drugs in terms of solely "chemical inputs" --- but the only actual chemical reaction that matters happens inside our heads.

So word... drugs can be found in sight, feeling, smell and sound... as well as the chemicals we're more familiar with.
