Every year I have to pay in i'm cool with that whatever, but this year I decided to claim educational credits since I was in school getting a bach in computer science etc. Well I did'nt have to pay any of the loans back until this year so last year I didn't have to pay towards tuition or loans, the irs sent me a letter saying I filed wrong because I didnt pay for tuition but I did get loans and a grant so I dont see how I was not eligible for educational credits and wasn't able to knock a bit off the money I had to pay in. I just think there wrong but don't know how to find out

u got nothing off bc u didnt show proof of the loan repayment/dispursement..whatever..
education credits are like 250 off or something, its not that big of a discount
but u had to submit a letter from the fed student loan (or wherever u took - im saying stafford) with the principal borrowed at what %, and what uve re-paid
ideally u should get a education discount, and then either ur repayment amount, or just the interest (i forget but thinks its the latter) off
all together tho, its not much money in the grand scheme of taxes, but ary bit counts
i dont think there is any money off for a grant, bc its already free money btw.

if u went to school in 2012 u should get education credits off...

classes, books, parking, even gas n transportation

1098e documents the amount of interest that u payed for the year on loans as long as it was over 600.00, u can claim these monies.
