Underneath the blue sky, she seemed to enjoy the moonshine,
the way she needed her shoes tied at twenty three kept our youth tight.
"If I'm a bird, you're a bird," these words spark up to soon ignite,
as the page turns and the haze burns, our love swoons and thrives.
The way she chases butterflies; with the greatest thunder thighs,
ignoring her mother's lies, sometimes, we'd run away to another life.
I miss her smile, the way she laughed, it's been awhile since she passed,
am I in denial? Some might ask. Searching down the isles for my past.
Waking up in an empty bed, feeling filthy like I'm really dead,
wading through self-pity, dread; this whiskey isn't filling my head.
Calling out for her love, delusional, I was the only one at her funeral,
I was stunned, she was beautiful- some would say I fucked up as usual.
Standing at the coffin, tears in my eyes, feeling lost then in the light,
swear there was God with her at his side, moving across the sunshine.
My knees gave in, I prayed for a way to see her again,
release me of these sins so I can breathe in her strawberry scent.
The love of my life didn't deserve to die... this hurts to write,
one moment she was a burst of light, then she was in a hearse that night.
She grew wings and flew away, I never knew things that would change,
my noose seems like it'll stay... hopefully this stool doesn't break..........
