you guys know speakers?

really this is a post venting my ignorance. but maybe one of you know

so i've been embracing my white trashness of late. my bronco has the shittiest speakers. it had two old shitty sony like 5 inch car speakers in the back. not 6x9's but like door speakers, in the back. like a circle. well they're trash and give off 0 bass. all highs, and they are blown as well.

so i was like fuck it and tore them out, spliced the wires and hooked up my old house speakers.

well my old house speakers suck too, they're like 5's as well, with a tweeter or whatever too. but they gave off a little bass being in a box and able to handle more than the horrific shitty speakers that were in my bronco.

the problem is tho its still barely any bass. like they'll blow up when i crank it they can't handle the bass and the highs and mids overpower everything and its too quiet if i balance it correct.

well i got these studio monitors tho. bx8's by m-audio. i don't like them for the purpose i bought them. monitoring mixes. they are way to bassy and just aren't giving me a clean flat response i need for mixing. so i decided i will open them up and have a looksee at the wiring inside.

the sub and the tweeter both connect to a circuit board which connects to an XLR output.

now in normal hifi house speakers, the tweeter is sort of sautered to the sub, and some other weird electrical piece i'm LEARNING is a CROSSOVER. which is basically what tells the speaker where to send frequencies. highs to the tweeter. lows to the sub. this way you don't blow the tweeter sending bass to it. or the sub by sending high pitched shit to it.

well with these the circuitry is the crossover thing i guess, because both plug into the circuit board.

i don't want to blow them on the offchance they suck in my car too, because i like them for listening, just not mixing.

so anyways i was wondering if i could just splice the tweeter wire with the sub wire and connect that up with the speaker wire in my truck

but i'm reading thats probably a bad idea, but again everything im googling is for car stereo systems. like legit shit. subs, amps, etc.

i just want to hook up speakers for listening enjoyment, not to impress the neighborhood.

so basically i'm gonna just hook up the subs running a speaker wire to those.

my main question is do any of you have any idea how i can hook the tweeters up without blowing them? i know people with systems can dead all bass to their regular car speakers, but i think that requires the crossover amps and shit have.

i just got a shitty sony xplod cd player lol.

but yea i dunno tomorrow on my lunch break im gonna open up my shitty house speakers and see if i can't steal the crossover from those? i dunno.

as you can see unlike house speakers, they don't have the red and black input. they have an xlr input.

opening it up that is connected to a circuit board, and on the opposite side of that, a red and black cable is plugged into the circuit board, leading to the sub. i unplugged that from the sub, like any normal speaker it just has the slide on ends so i don't gotta worry about splicing and cutting, and i connected wire to the sub, and ran it out the sub hole and closed it back up.

the problem im having tho is the tweeter has its own speaker wire going to the circuit board, with its own circuit board plug.

i could hook those up like a regular speaker but will undoubtedly blow them

i might blow the subs too i dunno how they will handle any high frequencies sent their way. but i'm sure they will fare better, at the least they won't blow IMMEDIATELY.

i'm trying to figure out how i can hook up BOTH tho without blowing them.

i need a crossover i think, but i don't know how that works with house speakers, and if they only come on amps?

where is diode he knows everything right?

but yea as of tomorrow i'll just test the subs

i still have the door speakers which are ok. no bass at all just highs and mids so that will probably balance the sound out. the bass from these studio monitors with the highs and mids from the doors.

if the subs don't blow. but they're KEVLAR but i guess the voice coils probably aren't so it won't matter lol

the problem tho is the tsr like the xlr connects to the circuitboard, which is powered by a cord, like you plug in a wall. its the same cord as pc's and monitors use. that big weird polygon plug

so i don't know if it would work at all plugging them in like that.

the speakers and circuitry have their own amp built in, which is why they have the power cord.

i'm bypassing that by connecting the speaker directly

if i use that cable i would have to use the internal shit and actually plug them in. and i don't know how to do that in a car/truck and even if i figure that out it will probably kill my battery right?

i suggest you find the nearest DSI mobile electronics store. if there is one. out here -they are the gods of vehicle audio hookups

word we got like horizon audio and shit like that. im not trying to drop money tho or jave a dope system. just something that sounds decent inside my shit. i got one of those bx8s hooked up now and its sounding good. i dont need the tweeter in it hooked up the doors are giving off plenty of highs just wanted some type of bass

not even thumping shit just enough to actually hear basslines and 808s because they were non existent

whoever had this truck before me had a system in it and took out the factory speakers and replaced them with cheap sony garbage just designed for mids and highs

so without an amp and sub my shit was wack.

but word these bx8s should work fine now as makeshift subs. no amp or nothing just powered by the head unit

ya man, tbh.. everytime i tried to hook up systems or whatever -bass speakers and shit... something always prevented me due to the type of fucking car and make.

had a mercury mountaineer 1997 model.. the fucking thing was top of the line in 97 for that make.. which included the jbl i think, audio package with the built in subs and shit.. so when i actually went and got my own -it was so much harder to hook up and i couldnt do it alone... evryone i asked couldnt figure it out... and places wanted way to much -needless to say i sold the speakers.

then i came accross some dope subs for the subaru.. well
didnt realize it until i tried to instal everything.. but the actual head usit in the car was damaged and one of the lines wasnt providing any feedback from a rear speaker... this made hooking it all up a problem again, even for my friend who is a super mechanic and one of the dopest guys a i know at doing any car related shit... when he couldnt figure it out -i also scrapped the idea again, and got rid of the subs. ive been doomed for hooking cars up with systems from the gate.

i dont know.. the subaru still bumped nice enough from the inside... but outside it sounded like shit, and i wanted something you could hear from the outside and be like -damn, that shit rocks

never have i had this. but even though im getting older and probably should be past this stage in my life, i refuse to give up until i have a car/truck/suv that fucking bumps lol

word man i dig it, i like bumping sound systems and shit, my only reason for not going the actual car stereo, amp, subs and shit route is, i wanna do it right. which means $$$. and i want the shit to be ridiculous like hear me coming for like 5 minutes before i actually pull up near you lol

and the bronco isn't ready for that. the cap on it rattles and creaks as is, and i want to paint it and shit. its clean how it is but i'd rather not draw attention to it till i got it looking how i want it

also i want a garage, because if someone hears me bumping where i'm at they'll break in my shit and tear it up to steal shit

as it is it just sounds like any factory stereo so i don't gotta worry about anybody busting a window out or tearing my dash apart
