Default Pulling my Strings

An Old Post from my time in the Sacred Scripture league in Rb. Enjoy!

Pulling My Strings

It was booze and regret that wrapped his heart so tight
A scientist lost and fading inside his spark of life

"Lord, it's dark tonight..."

He tilts the bottle to the glass
And hopes reverently that this sorrow will pass
He was a performer with a pen, he could never be beat
He made the letter's dance like it was sesame street
He waltzed with a formula, step couldn't be broke
Special effects from the vials with multicoloured smoke
A puppeteer pulling strings to move in harmony
Conducting building blocks of life to where a start could be
Initially received as science's saviour
And yet he's drunk in his house now, branded a failure

********************

This was his last experiment, the great equation
All the pieces of puzzle lined for a standing ovation
He raised his hands like a conductor and began the orchestration
The cables that raised the table, a beautiful string section
Pulled to higher notes, thunderbolt's a base melody
Percussion rain to a crescendo, the prof's revelling, free
The thunder struck a final note, signal's the end of the jive
And the creation sits upright, Prof screams

"HE'S ALIVE!!!!"

********************

What followed next was education, tutoring the new soul
A bitter madman turned good towards a new goal
He taught his child the hate of man, their petty hypocrisies
Of cheating husbands, domestic violence and corrupt democracy
In fact a demon-crazy, he told his kid of isolation
And how his work had grown stale amid civilisation
How he'd been driven past the brink into a free fall
With a mood like a see-saw, but in truth, he see's all

"He will take my revenge, yes, that's karmic justice
His birth is their end"

He had the evil heart to push it
He walked the creation to the exit on invisible strings
Head full of hot air, it had given him wings

********************

They scream when they saw him, they flee for their lives
A few brave souls rally to be eaten alive
Bones crushed, red rivers, he was fulfilling his mission
A convict unchained, killing the prison
An hour passed of pure carnage, future satanic verses
Playing butcher to an off-key tune of panicked curses

Then he discovered too late what the man hadn't told him
That people unified, and good, had the strength to overthrow him

A burning shower of arrows made him turn on his heels
Broke away from the mob, cursing their steel
A lone rat shaking free, he'd survived the sewer
The monster raced up the tower, fire was his pursuer
The battlements leaned in the wind, cannon fire struck
Tilting over, fucked, bricks falling and stuck
He let out his final roar as he fell without wings

"I didn't know what i was doing, he was pulling my strings!"

********************

The figure falls in slow motion, broken strings hang below
And the curtain now closes on the puppeteer's show

This was dope. Really looking forward to the rest of the GWL with writers like you in it.

Your storytelling ability is great, the transition from the scientist to his creation as the point of view was seamless. Vocabulary helped paint the picture, the metaphor of musical creation was on point and executed nicely.

also really enjoyed the theatrical tie in at the beginning and how you brought it all back at the end with the 'pulling my strings'... really enjoyable read.

this verse was awesome my man. my fav segment was "This was his last experiment, the great equation
All the pieces of puzzle lined for a standing ovation
He raised his hands like a conductor and began the orchestration
The cables that raised the table, a beautiful string section
Pulled to higher notes, thunderbolt's a base melody

The thunder struck a final note, signal's the end of the jive
And the creation sits upright, Prof screams"
the juxtaposition was really cool. seems to be about god. i like how you liken him to a drunk lulz. i've read verses that are written from the perspective of the devil, not saying this verse was one of those but it does gave some kind of perspective, and its one of the coolest execution of that trope for me. great verse my man.
