Default 80 books every man should read (esquire article)

http://www.esquire.com/the-side/feat...-books#slide-1

I got 15 as a generous figure, since it includes books I "read" for school (I mostly read them, but filled in the gaps with class discussions and wikipedia at times). Asterisks mark those ones.

dubliners
naked and the dead
*invisible man
*call of the wild
heart of darkness
midnight’s children
huck finn
what we talk about when we talk about love
a good man is hard to find
*the things they carried
grapes of wrath
for whom the bell tolls
*as I lay dying
slaughterhouse 5
lolita

@God Of War READ ALL 80 OF THESE, HAPPY NOW?!

i read some pages of moby dick as a kid. not sure if it was a legit version, i mean i guess it has to be? it was a novel but it had like a cool picture in black and white every chapter sort of.

i tried reading "the road" thought it was terrible tho

so yea basically i read none of these. im surprised the shining was included over the STAND tho

the stand is the only steven king shit i read tho admittedly, i've only seen the jack nicholson shining movie

but the stand is too illlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll llllllllllllll

but yea i figured i wouldve read at least 1.

no where the red fern grows????? every man should read it and learn the love between a HICK and his dogs. RIP OLD DAN AND LITTLE ANN

Oh, it's a slideshow filled mostly with the most obvious choices possible.

Nope.

I just don't want to click 80 times. I don't have a list because I haven't read nearly enough books.

OK, assuming this is the same list, I've read The Grapes of Wrath, Blood Meridian, The Postman Always Rings Twice, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Dubliners, The Call of the Wild, The Professional, Slaughterhouse-Five, Heart of Darkness, Moby Dick, The Autobiography of Malcolm X and Lolita. That's 12.

I fucking hate it when websites make you click to look at each item on a list.

Clicked Certain's link. I have read none of those books except maybe some of Moby Dick when I was too young to grasp it properly. Saw the movie version of some. w/e.

midnight's children
heart of darkness
dubliners
invisible man
the brothers karamazov
the grapes of wrath
what we talk about when we talk about love

nine. surprisingly few? i used Certain's list because i can't afford that many clicks. i have a lot to read, generally, but none of my omissions on that list really bothered me. recommendations?

i would say most hipsters probably haven't read hell's angels. they've probably read fear and loathing in las vegas and possibly the rum diary.

i loved the rum diary as a book. they made too many changes in the film for me to want to see it.

i have an original, full color paperback release of the curse of lono.
