![]() ![]() AOWL MAGAZINE presents.... "Write Me A Blockbuster" ***WEEK 8 Edition*** Whaddup folks! Once again, we're back with another edition of the hottest magazine on the net, the AOWL magazine, Week 8 Edition. 7 weeks have come & gone. The playoffs are inching closer. Every match counts. This edition is jammed pack with extras & in-depth analysis. I know you're ready to dive in. The sounds of Ab-Soul will guide you through each section. Enjoy the read. OPEN MIC FEATURE #1 "Locked In" written by nO gOod! Quote:
The King presents.... "The Rewind" ***A recap of week 7's match ups*** Zenland earns his 2nd straight victory in a surprising forfeit win against Kuja.- The Zenmaster (4-3) is picking up steam of late as he earned his 2nd win in a row in a shocking forfeit from Kuja (2-4) who pulled his verse & signed out due to real life issues. Who knows how the votes would have turned out, but it looked like Zen was favored. An impressive rhyme scheme and a solid story was the factor among the voters. Vulgar wins easily over a Witty-less showing, in a 11-0 landslide.- Vulgar (1-0) is back. He dropped a sure fire gem this week, only to go up against a half assed verse by his opponent, Witty (3-3) who did not have the inspiration to put together a complete story. Vulgar flexed his penmanship with ease & does not look like he has lost a step at all. That means danger for any competitor he goes up against. Witty will look to get back on track this week. zygote hands Adonis his first loss in the season, in a 9-2 victory in the #1 contenders match.- You'd think that the quick topical writtens by zygote (5-1) would hurt him in his matches but that is barely the case at all. He cruised to a smooth 9-2 win over Adonis (3-1), who suffered his first loss of the season. Both received some mixed reviews from the voters, as they felt that both didn't bring their A-game in this match. zygote now looks for revenge in this weeks championship against 3x champion, Frank. [B]Que kicks off is AOWL debut with a 9-2 victory over Vinzr.[/I]- Que came. Que saw. Que conquered. Vinzr (3-2) was looking to keep up his impressive start to the season but dropped a dud compared to his opponent in his 9-2 loss. Que (1-0) was able to put together a fresh, original style piece that just attracted the voters his direction. Vin suffers his second loss in a row & has signed out of the league at the moment. Que looks to pull off another win against newcomer Xces, this week. Ink survives in a close victory over c.d.m., 7-5.- These type of match ups always makes the heart pump a little more faster. At the end, Ink (3-1) was able to stand alone as the victor, edging the impressive c.d.m. (2-5), 7-5. The votes went back and forth until the very end, when Ink pulled out 2 straight votes to close it off. Both wrote some very interesting pieces & it was clear that the voters were split between which one had the better direction. Despite c.d.m's record, he is still a threat & will look to string together some victories. Ink is now in sole possession of first place in the Black division. IAmBenT continues his rise as he upends Split, 6-2.- For a second, this battle looked like it was going to swing the other way, but IAmBent (3-1) was able to hold ground & take off with a second win in a row, a 6-2 victory over Split (3-3). BenT once again put together one of the cleaner and impressive verses of the week & could be a true contender for the title soon. Last week he earned VOTW & this week he easily is one of the writers who could contend for it. Split has continued on his rollercoaster trend this season. It's only a matter of time when we will see if he breaks out of the slump & begins a run. TopicalDood5 hands The Vator his fifth straight loss, in a 6-3 win.- The rabbit hole continues to get deeper for Vator. He took an early 2-1 lead in votes before falling in the end, 6-3, to TopicalDood5 (2-0) who is really picking up steam. Dood once again put together a very well written story to follow up last weeks gem. For Innovator (2-5) it marks his fifth loss in a row though he has been holding his own in every match up & continues to improve. King Keith survives a late surge to defeat Cereal_Killa, 6-4. (recap written by Split)- King Keith came out swinging with a highly structured realtime psychoanalysis of a killer and a detective. I guess it was a continuation of a previous work, I had not read it or forgot it. Expert wording and some really great metaphors within this properly written story. A lot of foreshadowing on both parts, something difficult to achieve in the small context of a topical. CK brought a very surreal story laden with poetic devices and metaphors. King Keith came across as a little thin but strong conceptually, and CK's was thick with meaning, though a tad aloof. King Keith ultimately won, which I would attribute to his more accesible content and tangibly terrifying atmosphere. Frank makes it 3 successful title defenses in a row, as he cruises to a 12-1 pounding over Red glare.- When the smoke cleared & the dust settled, Frank (6-0) stood once again, unscathed & still the AOWL Champion, drumming Red glare (4-2) 12-1. It was one-sided, as the voters felt Franks great imagery & detail in his story clearly outshined the interesting content of Red's piece. Red was riding on a 3 match win streak, surging up the rankings but couldn't put together enough to knock Frank off the throne. The win sets Frank up with a rematch against zygote in the AOWL championship match. BATTLE OF THE WEEK FRANK (Titanium) (6-0) VS. RED GLARE (TITANIUM) (4-2) Despite the large gap in the final tally, this match featured two very good writers who dropped some fire. Frank emerged as the victor and remains champion despite the effort by Red to be the first to dethrone him. Red glare's verse: Quote:
Frank's verse: Quote:
VERSE OF THE WEEK "Cruelty is no alien concept." written by Vulgar He made his debut & certainly showed his talents. A great conceptual piece written with perfect mechanics, strong word choice & diction, Vulgar shows us that he has not lost a step & looks to be a force in these last few weeks of the season. For that, he earns VOTW. Quote:

![]() OPEN MIC FEATURE #2 "Paint You Renaissance" written by dead man Quote:
Week 5: No Show Love: Back in the Past Produced By: Adonis Tyson – Wrote a story of a Bookie/ Gambler, who was the best at what he does. But gravity is constant, and the Gambler eventually came back to earth; losing everything. Quote:
It was a short, too the point and easy to follow verse. One thing I didn't like much was you made the star a bookie in the beginning, making his boss money, but then said place bets with me and you'll never lose money. These contradict as either he's a gambler, betting and is good at it, or a bookie setting good enough lines that the “boss” always comes out on top. Either way, he can't make the boss and betters happy, but you made it so. All in all a very quick read that had good flow nearly throughout the entire verse. Good drop. VINZR – Wrote of two characters in two different phases of life, who meet sparks fly. The topic was executed well, the flow was really good. To me it read as vulnerable, somber and moved along briskly. Both characters had enough build up to draw a connection to each, then there was a decent amount of imagery sprinkled here and there that simply helped a good story line shine to something more. Quote:
Some good writing in metaphor form here, this was definitely the highlight of the verse to me. One bit of criticism is the simplicity in choice of rhyming, i.e. “pool/stool, beverage/leverage”. Not many inners or Multies were found, and it reads as if you write the first thing that comes to mind rhyme wise. You have talent with writing, but as a reader occasionally spicing up a scheme or such goes a long way. Great read though. C.D.M. – This was a very impressive showing. From flow to story-line, to any other criteria of voting you might have. CDM wrote a tale of twin brothers, polar opposites in all fashions on life. One smart, loved more and a missionary. The other weak and military. The story culliminates with them meeting for the first time in some 15 years... Quote:
The story struck the topic dead on, had a particular flow to it that let the words breathe with ease. The imagery was vivid and the verse all in all was nearly void of flaw. Great read in the end that I'm sure if weren't a no-show verse would have received majority votes with most people oozing of its greatness. Ego fed kind sir, this will be the last. I did not include the typical 12 line 24 word verses of nothing for no-show love...except this one INK – I am quoting the entire verse because it's short, and even considering the length I feel like it could have won against a few other complete verses in any week... Quote:
I “underlined” a great line, absolutely amazing imagery/metaphor that is a sign of a great writer. I know something came up and you couldn't finish the verse, but this was the makings of classic in my opinion. Hope you one day finish it. Great beginning. [QUOTE=Adonis] Week 7: No Show Shizine
Produced By: Adonis Nigma – I'll begin with the bad news I guess, first, are you from the states? The grammar in this was pretty bad bro. I won't point them out but numerous misspelled words, grammatical/ wrong tense or a combination of both I encountered. But when you sit and read the piece for what it is...I'm not positive of the underlying meaning but, a story of a soldier and his comrades. The protagonist is simply a soldier, and the theme is the bond he holds. This verse was laced with an abundance of Multies/ Inners... Quote:
I liked the verse, not in love with it, but it was a solid showing none the less. I will add that some of the Multies almost “took away” as much as highlighted the verse. There were some poor word choices that rhymed superbly, but I assume your main focus here was Rhyme? If so you did that great, good verse. Objective – Wrote a very short narrative, yet chalk full of ideas. I've never read a thing from you, but I see some talent there, especially with a smorgasbord of ideas style which I think can be difficult for most. The rhyme schemes were not difficult, and based off some of the wording I will go out on a limb and say you are not American?? Quote:
This exert should pretty much sum up the style in a nutshell. I loved the route you took the topic, you gave the topic life and brought it full circle from beginning to end. All in all a decent verse, simple and short, yet still effective. A WORD FROM THE KING.... "A Look Into This Weeks Topics" I received a few questions about how to go about this weeks topics. So for those who don't have any idea, I'm going to explain. Your focus this week is the quote & not the picture. The picture is there as a reference. How you go about writing your piece is entirely up to you. If you want to use the movie as your base, feel free. Don't worry about using the picture. This is a challenging week from what it looks like, but I'm expecting to see some very interesting verses. So do the damn thing. Holler. THE EIGHTLY SHOW, episode 3 split eight (17:57:13): wanna do that interview? Darryl King (18:21:01): Sure split eight (18:21:16): cool cool. so, introduce yourself to people who may not know you in the league Darryl King (18:26:19): Sup, my name is Witty. Darryl King (18:34:43): It was a great battle, I'm a fan of both, I like how they write, I think the 12-1 result isn't an accurate reflection of how close it really was imo at least, but I do think the right person won. Red is a future champ though, without doubt split eight (18:34:54): indeed. too bad he picked such a ballsacky name. any particular matches youre looknig forward to this week? Darryl King (18:38:28): Champ match should be crazy, pohfig vs barakon should be awesome, yourself and veritas should be awesome too, and also nigma vs adonis, who I think could be the dark horse this season. So many great battles. split eight (18:38:01): nigma or adonis as dark horse? Darryl King (19:07:09): It is going to be an awesome battle, dude is dope, its gonna be a tough one Darryl King (19:07:30): I'm confident though split eight (19:07:48): he has been known to procreate with fruits. that is where he draws his sorcery split eight (19:07:52): be wary Darryl King (19:08:21): Lmao I will be split eight (19:11:09): indubitably. our interview's close grows ever closer... before we enter the final sprint, do you have any comments or suggestions for how hte league is being run? Darryl King (19:16:29): I want 60 lines! split eight (19:17:07): the fulfillment of this wish will be reprieved, provided you answer these riddles three... split eight (19:17:30): 1) Have you ever drank Bailey's from a shoe? Frank (Titanium) (3x AOWL Champion) (6-0)------- this week: vs. vs. zygote (5-1) Frank has successfully defended the title 3 times. He remains the top unbeaten writer in the league and shows no signs of slowing down. 2. zygote (Platinum) (5-1)------- this week: vs. vs. Frank (6-0) zygote earns himself a rematch against Frank this week and has been one of the most consistent writers week in, week out. A win will really shake things up & give the Platinum conference a strong defender of the AOWL championship 3. King Keith (Titanium) (4-1)------- this week: vs. Mike Wrecka (4-3) 4. pohfig (Platinum) (4-1)------- this week: vs. Red glare (4-2) poh is coming off a one week hiatus & once again will be facing a tough opponent this week. poh remains the biggest threat to Frank & any leap up the ranks will pit him back in the championship. 5. Red glare (Titanium) (4-2)------- this week: pohfig (4-1) Red dropped 3 spots after the loss to Frank in the championship but don't be surprised if he manages to stay afloat in the top 5. He heads the new Orange division and is now a Platinum conference member. 6. Mike Wrecka (Titanium) (4-3)------- this week: vs. King Keith (4-1) Mike Wrecka has another shot to get into the championship match & this week will be a huge key match up to getting there. Despite the losing streak, he is the leader of the Blue division and can definitely rise the ranks with a win. 7. Adonis (Platinum) (3-1)------- this week: vs. Nigma (4-1) Adonis loss to zygote last week, in his chance to earn a title shot. He has a shot to get back in the contenders match if he manages to win and some of the above loses. 8. Ink (Titanium) (2-1)------- this week: vs. Vulgar (1-0) Ink has won 3 match ups in a row can establish himself as a threat if he manages to survive this weeks match against Vulgar. He is also in sole possession of first place in the Black division. 9. Nigma (Platinum) (3-1)------- this week: vs. Adonis (3-1) Nigma is in a great position to not only earn a contenders shot, but also he can jump up immensely in the rankings if he pulls off a win this week. This will be the rare match where he won't have to deal with an opponent no showing. 10. Vinzr (Titanium) (3-1)------- this week: OUT. Vinzr is on a two match losing streak and sits it out this week. Who knows when he will return but he will fall out of the rankings more than likely after this week. Still is on track to make the playoffs if he can right the ship & pull off some wins. WEEK 8 PREDICTIONS Will be edited in early morning or Friday evening. Too tired to stay up any longer. You have enough to read for now anyways. :) That wraps up another edition of the AOWL magazine. Shout out to Split & Adonis for their contributions, it's always a major help. Shout out to everyone who takes the time vote & show, because it has made this league very exciting to compete in when many others struggle to even gather much interest. Also, welcome back to Genocide, good to see you around again man. Hope y'all enjoy this one here. This the King, signing out. Holler. |

@Ink's verse was the best of the No-Show Love section tbh imo.
Fantastic Mag yet again. love the attention to detail and nuance, and thank you for clearing up the ruling on the topics! Divisions look nice.

keith for remaining consistent and generally pretty awesome throughout the league, and adonis for discovering AOWL and adapting into one of it's most important members in a matter of weeks. w3rd

Thanks bro, appreciate that. I do it for a reason. I saw THE RHYME die, like dead for two years. People attempted to run leagues/Tournament to no avail. I decided to step the fuck up and give everything I have to keep The RHYME...in my humble opinion, I know I'm not alone and no offense to anyone especially the dude King...the greatest league in history as far as competitors, voters and all around incite. Anyways, I feel I succeeded this season, and will continue my best to help any league I'm apart of stay alive. I quit writing for like 4-5 years, but I wish to continue now that my daughters aren't infants anymore, and basically I don't write on my own. So you guys are my "writing life line"
