Default Last night I went to an Escape Room

Quite possibly the most fun I've had in a while.

If you aren't familiar with the concept, it's pretty simple. You and your friends are locked in a room full of clues and puzzles, and you're given one hour to figure out the puzzles, find a key and get out of the room.

The place we went to just opened in January, and has about 5-6 games a week. Only three teams have escaped so far.

I went with 9 of my friends, and they started off by breaking us up into two teams. Put half of us in one room, and half in another. We were instructed to find a way to communicate with one another, and to reunite in a larger connecting room. There we would find more puzzles and ultimately the key to escape. So immediately we start rummaging through the room. There are words painted on the walls, there are numbers in the corners of picture frames, an upside down clock frozen at a specific time, a bookshelf with hollowed out books and riddles plastered inside, a small locked chest on the floor. Fuckin dope as shit. We found a small walkie talkie inside a pillow under a couch to communicate with the rest of our team. And of course, all the riddles in our little room unlocked the boxes in their room and vice versa.

So much fun. If you like puzzles at all, you will dig the shit out of this. We got to the second to last puzzle when time ran out. We found a hidden locker room behind a bookcase, with some paintings on the wall. We opened one locker, which gave us a clue to open a different locker. We opened that one, and again were directed to a third locker. While solving this riddle, time ran out. Had we got that locker open, it would have given us the clue to decipher the painting on a the wall, which would have opened the locker with our escape key. The guy running the game said we would have been out in about 3 extra minutes.

But yeah, google your city and "escape room" and go do that shit. We're already looking for another one to do soon.

there's stuff like this in Seoul, and it's advertised as a fun, new way to go on a date with your significant other, and all I can think is that it would be a nightmare with lots of arguing if I went with my fiancé lol. it does sound like fun to do with your friends, though.
