I can't be the only person that sees it. Last night on netflix I was watching this thing called beyond the mat... and it was pretty cool.
And to preface things, I had what I called "guys" being dolls of like bret hart, shawn michaels, the rock, mankind, undertaker, stone cold etc. I had an actual wwf ring with little cords on it, which would be the equivalent of a girl having a barbie doll house or whatever. I'd make up my own scenarios. So, not like i've never thought about it before, but I was like, thats basically what rap was... and more so what its become. Like you're a fucking character, that you make up and promote.. and that actually matters more than your actual music. and I know with other genres and shit its KIND OF the same, like the beatles had a persona, rolling stones where like tougher etc or whatever.. but rap more so than any other form of music, i'd say.. is more about persona than music. Same thing with pro wrestling. And I quit watching WWF when I was like 16... quit listening to rap when I was like 25. It's roughly the same thing. I don't watch WWF at all anymore, couldn't name a single person, I every now and then still listen to some new rap and check out the scene, but I've pretty much grown out of it. |
