PS, I am from a different era, late 80's.. so I was essentially just taking it back to those roots with this beat. If you listen to groups like "Slum Village" and etc.. you would genuinely know what I am talking about.

I’m from the same era. And I like Dilla as much as the next man..
Maybe it was the fact I listened on my iPad, but I could only hear two notes and drums. I just wasn’t really feeling it... Old school, minimal beats can be really dope... but, I just wasn’t into this one. No diss involved. Keep at it.

I like the sample
The way the drums are mixed clash with the sample, imo, and the rhythm on that drum fill works against the hits from the chords I like keeping things simple, but this could've used another layer at some point. Maybe something subtle like a quiet hat/shaker/tamb pattern midway through? |
