At the moment I'm listening to a legendary (to the full extent of that word) rapper from '95. There's only 100 cassette tapes in existence and even the knowledge about the rapper is hushed by the community.
Why? Apparently he's a dude that has seen some shit, ended up in a psych ward and want to forget everything about his past history in hiphop. So he's asked his friends that he shared and created music with to be forgotten, tapes kept to themselves and that to be respected so he can get on with his life. The Norwegian hiphop community have respected his wishes as well as they can. I did a google search and all I could find was one eBay article selling the cassette tape and the only 2 comments on it was one dude saying he'd pay a lot for it, and another questioning its validity. Therefore, he's more of a myth caught in passing or if you hear his name you're more likely to never hear it again than the name mentioned in front of you again. A friend of mine is a dedicated collector of Norwegian rap so he got one of those cassette tapes not too long ago, have digitalized it for me and I'm now listening to a well guarded piece of history supposed to be forgotten and listened to by as few people as possible. It's strange because shit isn't bad compared to '95-standards, lyrics are ahead of its time talking about drugs and psychedelics like LSD/Shrooms as if it's common shit. I can't say I know a lot of rappers that talked about psychedelics like that back in the early 90s except coke and weed etc., but psychedelics? At least not in Norway, specially since most of the top heads went through an era of abstinence and advocated against drug use etc. at the time, and then you had this dude giving 0 fucks dropping bangers that eventually wasn't intended to be listened to by anyone. In order for me to get a hold of this tape I had to promise not to share it with anyone or upload it to Youtube, so I won't. This is more of a conversation starter than anything, I'd love to hear more stories like these.
