Champ Match: King Karaoke 4-0 vs ill nik-A 4-1
Karaoke wins by Split Decision
I've seen these guys battle each other a few times and first off, props to both for keeping it fresh through all these matchups. There were a few predictable concepts from both guys but everything was flipped and worded well. Very harsh verses all around. Karaoke had some cool tie-ins to the drug and age concepts, especially with the Rakim/Brand Nubian looks. Meanwhile Nik's sippy cup and HOF lines were serious. Voters were split but the big issue here was consistency – some cats didn't quote all of nik's stuff while Karaoke's lines were thought to be harder all around. Dope battle, but Karaoke got the edge from enough voters.

Contender Match: Muff 6-3 vs Junto 5-2

Jesus this was close. These two are easily some of the best on the site and this drop made that clear. The two of them keep mad consistency the whole time but the big difference here became Muff's references. He has some good creative ideas with cool delivery but he doesn't seem to be playing to his audience some of the time – this time might have been one of them. It seems obvious but it bears repeating – when your reader has to google your concept it takes away from the punch. Take notes kids. Honestly I think I might've voted for Muff, his trapdoor spider and Punji stick lines were dope. Junto had the Lebron and eating butt lines that were competitive, and the fact that they were simpler may have helped. Regardless, J got the win.

Tic 4-4 vs Fraze 6-2

Cool battle, but a little disappoint cause I've seen better from fraze, and the fact Tic is back to showing up at this level means this coulda been a much cooler battle. His verse was alright but the only standout was the Dre line, and ass flips are pretty easy to see coming. Tic had the advantage of consistency, his Latin1 line was a standout and the rest was generally solid. Fraze coulda made it close with a few stronger hits but he had a few misses that hurt him like trying to make 'bruh's ill' work as Brazil. With Tic stepping up these two are now 1-1 against each other so I'm looking forward to a 3rd under some higher pressure situation like a contender's match, cause there's a lot of potential here.

Wanderer 4-5 vs Lotto Smirk 4-2

This was a refreshingly good battle. Both dudes have shown a LOT of improvement over the last few weeks and this battle demonstrated how far they've come. Both had madly consistent verses with similar approaches and sources for ideas. All told this definitely could've gone either way, it reallly came down to who each voter was feeling more and there was a strong case for both. All told more people thought Lotto had the edge and gave him the dub – though props to Wanderer, his Wayne Rooney bar actually stuck in my mind after 4th of July weekend and reading every battle.

Des doing pics is good for everyone tbh. He's got the sense of humor and creativity to roast like a pro and he showed it here. I think KS is just starting to pic battle lately but he seems decent regardless. Des just made better use of the ammo given to him plain and simple. The Monsters Inc connection seemed like an obvious one but the way he flipped it with 'boo' was dope imo. Spree's verse was solid. His skull on lap line was awesome use of ammo but he had inconsistent delivery. Everyone thought Des got the win here pretty comfortably, good battle.

ispaz 4-3 vs Knucklehead 3-3

This was cool and props to Spaz for making it close. Knuck had a rushed verse but he was still able to match his opponent. Spaz had some nice concepts, he's been doing a lot better since last week and I think this week was even an improvement. His birdie and black heads bars were solid but Knuck had an okay verse that couldn't have really hung with better competition but he did what he needed to here. A lot of simple generics that felt like a shadowboxing deal but executed decently, like his candy crush and fan blades line were cool. In the end he got it with a more polished verse.

Maximus 2-0 vs Bust 2-1

Cool battle, good to see that Bust is living up to the potential he showed a few weeks ago. His verse started out slow but his last 6 lines were solid. Maximus just had a much better verse, hard to call any of his lines a definitive miss but he had the jabs to keep a lead on Bust. His mastectomy and torn book lines were dope concepts with some solid wording while Bust's only big standout was his body art line, which got done a LOT in the last cyph. Still good personal, but overall Max got the better verse all around and took the W.

Greed 2-4 vs Hush 2-2

Man Greed has probably taken the most L's in close calls out of everyone I've seen in text. I can't say I blame him for signing out but I don't think this one was as questionable as the others. First off Greed had creativity but really didn't have the wording to back it up at his normal level. Tbh I think his first lisp bar wasn't bad, it's a done concept but so are all neckhole lines and that Culkin line from Hush. Hush actually showed up decently, I dude goes on keystyle streaks but he definitely had some effort in this one. His batarang and cans bars were solid. Hush got this one for sure but it was pretty good.

Dre 0-2 vs Artificial 0-2

Art actually surprised me here, this is the level of drop I been waiting to see from him. I been a fan of his wording – shit reads really easily – but his concepts have been mostly played or just boring with a few bars mixed in that make you think 'why didn't he do more of that?'. This week he was nice from his opener, I've been doing the name shit for not voting for nearly 2 seasons and that's the first time I've seen anything like it. Dre also stepped it up, though he wasn't doing badly before. I think he was really motivated to not let Art win. He's got a writing style that shows experience – line length is immaculately consistent with punctuation at the end of each line – and he has that same kind of effective writing style that predates the longbar shit. Probably the best I've seen from both this season but everyone felt Amen got it on consistency. Props to both though.

Scrypt 0-0 vs Odd Ways 0-0

This was onesided tbh. Scrypt had some weird delivery with his bars that were kinda played out. His Sideways bar was probably his nicest but wording hurt it badly. Odd wasn't amazing but he had creative ideas. I liked his presidential mask and avengers concepts but they definitely lacked something in wording. Both need to make a few adjustments to really compete but Odd Ways had more creative ideas and better delivery. Scrypt could definitely use harsher wording first, his concepts as they are could be better but they're workable with a lot of wording.

Well. This one... happened. ribbt aka the homie 2triple0 made his first appearance back in the league, good to have you here bro. His style was always borderline flex with ok rhyming but really lacking in punchlines which is hurtful to a battle verse. He also dropped first (against Chyeahhh that's a feat on its own) which let Chyeahhh size up his verse and drop something just better enough. His bud and garden of eden lines were kinda funny, but overall this wasn't a stellar drop by the dude's standards. He still had enough in the punchlines to take it though.

My advice, take it or leave it: For the opener, I like the fact you're concise. This is the 3rd 'can' flip I've seen this week so it doesn't feel as fresh though the toucan part was different. I don't know what the point of including 'his kid' in there was either, but cool idea. I probably wouldn't quote it because the way it's worded has swagger but not as much punch imo.
Gay rights is interesting but I think you over did it - it got too wordy with 'this faggot will say' and while the 'gay rights' concept was easy, it was topical enough to work. the left/right thing would've been difficult to make interesting but the way it was started doomed it with length. Also it was the supreme court. There's no reason for you not to know it especially if you're making a bar out of it. Mistakes like that will deter some voters.
I have no idea what 'mac digits' are. I googled it and found nothing. you may have a concept in there but unless I just missed something obvious this could go over a lot of guys' heads.
Dr. Phil's interesting - but what do you mean by 'surrounded by more concerned parents'? I get you're trying to say something about parents being concerned for him but you're saying this like it's measured in number of parents surrounding him. Maybe something like 'bringing concerned parents to you' would've made a good starting point? I'm also not a huge fan of this kind of flip because unless theres clever wordplay it's a basic simile, which is kinda the lowest common denominator of delivery (see @Wanderer 's Wayne Rooney line, there's a solid bar there but the way it's done leaves something to be desired)
The world of warcraft is a misdirection-y thing that usually doesn't really hit. This was one of those times imo. There was nothing related to it, nothing personal, you just made reference to a south park episode then called him a nerd basically. The setup line too was kind of a waste, you have 2 lines to put into a punch so try to think of more ways they can help the impact beyond just rhyming.
Kiss good night is going for humor but that one requires delivery. You don't get that in text. You just set up a scenario that's kind of funny but to people just reading it, it's not too effective.
For Zelph, the more I look at it the more confused I am. Again, same thing with the setup line. It didn't really accomplish anything outside of rhyming. For the punch itself, doctors doesn't really connect to 'come through and cut til you're deformed like zelph's lip' imo. I get that surgery involves incision but you're combining two possible flips in a way that takes away from both - you could take the 'surgeon' route (bonus points for keying a demonstration of setups connecting to punchlines with underlines):

SO IN CONCLUSION: (again, take it or leave it) I think you could benefit from connecting your setups and punchlines better - its a whole line that feels like its just used to rhyme because you need to have a rhyme as opposed to something that sets it up. Conceptually look for wordplay to base your bars around - like the gay rights one, if you have a concept and a flip in mind when you write it you'll be a lot more successful.

Tell us about yourself - what got you into rap, rap battles, and text? Where did you start? How did you find Nc.org?

i got into rap when i was young and my older brother was blasting jadakiss and cassidy.. i was like unh ima fuck w/ this
so i did, been into it since
rap battling started 3-4 years ago, i been battling for a while but it used to be in person with all freestyles
i'm good at flips because of it, but my actual freestyles are only decent
i started text battling over at rb, first site and i met some people i can say i fuck w/, and started workin on my text skills
muff told me to come over here after i left rb, so i did n im glad i did


What do you think of NC and the NBL - specifically when it comes to improvement as a battler? Do you feel like you're getting the feedback and support to improve and/or could something be done differently?

if you want my real opinion on it, people need to understand that thy're not gonna win everything \
@Muff you are my nigga, whether you complain bout that vote or not we handled it n im standing by that decision
i think we need people that break down the vote more, i am the type of guy to say "nice" or "ok"

i think it improved over time, i'm slowly getting better w/ help from a couple pivotal people

What do you wanna see next for NC, specifically after NBL ends? Maybe a 1-2 league, a gimmick tourney, something team related, etc?

Damn this should be dope. Karaoke is one of the best personal battlers in text, while Junto is a mystery with serious bars. Both of these guys are good for consistently dope verses and knowing their opponents should make them drop serious. These two basically need nothing to be said about them and really, their bars will be able to speak for themselves. Two different but killer styles for sure, but Karaoke is just the NC king of champ matches. He's something like 11-1 in NBL champ matches between the last two seasons... he's won around half of the past 2 seasons' champ matches. Hard to bet against him but the only one to beat him was Cashius, another enigmaticish figure. Karaoke gets the 1 point edge but damn. I'm just looking forward to reading this.

Sick match up right here, Junto almost quit a while back but didnt & im glad cuz dude is dope, He's been on a roll lately, i think he's really 6-1 cuz one battle he no showed this season, he dropped fire vs muff. I think his style is the type that can beat kar there kinda similar in areas some personals from disc mixed in. Kar is murdering shit this season...again loll his personals are really creative & harsh, shit is hard to beat lol cuz there always fresh since most is from the disc. He must be like 20-2 over the last 3 seasons or some shit like that, crazy lol. This battle is gonna be dope & i can tell real hard to judge cuz both dont slack really. I will def vote on this an look forward to it..Kill it yah'll filthy animals.

The up and comers taking the main stage. This should be dope. Maximus aka Rayge has been good for awhile but he's generally been gliding past his competition so the big question here will be how he does with a tougher opponent. Tic had a shaky period earlier but now he's actually showing up and it's been killin lately. I think right now Tic is good for one or two bangers per battle when he's on, and he's been hot lately. The higher pressure should make dude thrive as well, I have to give him the edge.

I gotta admit max came back from being MIA pretty strong so far, last week he had a real solid verse some dope shit in there. His style is cool got some good concepts, he can twist shit & make it fresh, which is always good to be at...Tic made his way back to the contenders match, had acouple of losses that prolly pissed him off an hes back to see if he can get to the title, Hes good a lil inconsistent lately but his last verse was nice vs fraze...i think hes focused again n wont slack. This will be a close one, i think tic is a lil more creatively...max is a lil harsher..close.[/center]

Fraze has come up out of nowhere with good concepts and been constantly improving on his delivery, while Lotto's been shaking off rust and is capable of dropping hard verses. This should be interesting because they have the opposite problem - Fraze has good concepts but can get off with wording or delivery while Lotto is good at making shit harsh but sometimes settles for an easy/basic/played concept... two would make an interesting tag team... but this is really anyone's match and I'm looking forward to it.

Lotto is do really good this season has a nice rec, only thing i have to say is be a lil more harsh his wording gotten alot better concepts there, needs to polish the ecxution. He def can win this tho, he can hang w/ alot of good ppl at his best. Fraze had a not great showing last week he had to key he was in a rush, i understand that shits...sometimes u dont have time but wen he does focus on his shit, he can drop heat an beat ppl. This battle could be close or not depends which fraze shows up here...

This could turn out dope. Both of these guys have top 10 talent when it comes to pics and they're both dropping consistently. Des seems to be more and more motivated lately and his verses have been improving as he does pics. Knuck seems to be dropping rushed verses lately but doing pics against a formidable opponent could be the motivation he needs to drop dope. But based on what I've seen lately I think Des is gonna have a better verse, though Knuck can always rock a pic battle.

Ok this could be a good one but idk if there goin reg or pics, Des isnt horrible at reg battles but he is just decent relies on alot of played flips tbr so hopefully he stays away from that if they dont do pics, but if they do hes good & can beat anyone at them.
Knuckle is dope an got some good concepts, i dont remember seeing him pic battle so idk if they are now to think of it, too lazy to look...if they reg battle i think knuckle will win, if they pic i got des...so ima say.

Chin is inconsistent to, but then he'll drop a good verse so there pretty much around the same level but i think art is a lil better & wont take this lightly. This could be real close imo.

Dude is a character I'll give him that. But Scrypt just has a better (read: any) concept of a punch so he'll probably take this one.

This is potentially a lowkey dope battle. Murda's a complete package textcee, while Odd Ways has some iffy wording at times. He didn't seem too rusty last week and hopefully will come back improved this week against serious competition. This also is the first crew related battle NBL is seein so that should be dope... Bullet Farm represent. Hoping to see some personal stuff from both but right now Murda's just been more consistent. Odd could pull something together but it would one of his best verses to date. Looking forward to it regardless.

Swerve could be rusty but was nice back when he battled. Ace definitely has some experience and some rust but his cyph bars look nice. Swerve's gonna end up deciding this one, if he's not too rusty it'll be dope and if he is Ace could take it. Not sure how it goes but Swerve has the slightest edge.

I think Infiltration is Trag? Or not? Regardless he seemed good in the cyph, hopefully he doesn't try to edit his verse after votes come in or anything. Paradigm was one of the best battlers on NC2 tbh, but he's possibly rusty. He could be hit or miss at the worst I saw from him and if rust is a factor he could be in trouble. But his last verse was solid and I don't expect that again. I think Paradigm is a little more creative but both have solid styles and it could be anyone's battle.
