And their job has nothing to do with receivers and mostly to do with protecting the QB by not allowing the DLine and MLB's and short ILB's inside of the back field.

Lead blockers jobs are to protect against weak side blitzes and what not or assist with opening trap holes in the A,B,C gaps which are know as the 2,4,6 - sweep 8 on the right side and the 1,3,5, sweep 7 on the left side.
The O-Line helps out by giving the WR ample time to run effective routes for the QB to connect with.
