Here are tools used to reverse engineer software. This allows you to make any software free by removing the registration for the software and recompiling it to an executable.

You will need to know Assembly Language to do reverse engineering although reflector allows you to reverse code to high level languages for .net programs only.
exeinfo-pe allows you to see what language the executable was built in. Ollydbg is the oldest and most well known debugger out there. The next best known is probably ida
