People can be understanding creatures, with some effort. So, in a situation where one battler may mistake another battler as yet another battler, and then write bars against said third battler in a verse, we are faced with two options. One, look at the bars and be like “well, that’s written towards another battler, who isn’t here, so this bar is automatically trash.” Or, we can take the slightly more evolved stance of “hey, I can judge this bar as though it was the guy he thinks he’s writing against, and just look at the overall content and quality of the bar while I ponder my vote. That way, we have a battle that isn’t just going to end one sided because of a small error in alias judgement.”
The first way, while your instinct to adhere to, is the SHITTY thing to do
You can make it even worse by making backhanded, vague comments in the chat thread about how we can “now” get away with whatever.
But the second option, the one that most of us choose, that’s the RIGHT way to be. And I would appreciate if you took the time to think about just why that is, and why you’re first instinct isn’t that.
