I used to fuck with the hard bop stuff pretty heavy, but the solos just take too damn long. Of that whole era it felt maybe 1/10 are enjoyable listens. Usually, for me, it's when the soloist also writes tunes. Feels like they think differently. Like Bobby Timmons or Wayne shorter on the art blakey albums (and their solo stuff) just feel more engaging to me
aeroplane just sounds like the worst experimentation possible. whoever said it clicked after 75 listens was probably right but I'm not going to be the one to confirm that. pitchfork can keep their 10.

and I'll check those guys out you mentioned. I've heard of wayne shorter before. but jazz really helps me focus on work when I have to build a deck, read a report, etc.
