you've never boxed before, eh?
What most martial artists fail to realize is that there's a huge X factor in any physical altercation - athleticism. Boxers, unlike most other martial artists, are supreme athletes. Even professional MMA is playing catchup with the level of athlete they're able to attract (not an opinion, that's economics). Plus, there are plenty of tricks to keep a kickboxer off guard (head feints, footwork, angles, etc). To say boxing isn't fighting is ridiculous.
I'm no super tough guy, but I've trained in a number of different styles for a number of different years - Kung fu, boxing, BJJ and muay thai - and if I learned anything, it's that there are badasses and pussies in every genre. I used to think taekwando was fag shit, until I started sparring with this dude with a background in it and he nearly broke my ribs. Respect to anyone who masters any combat skill - they can probably kick your ass.
