Going pre-owned (unless you know the previous owner and where they kept the couch perfectly) is a huge risk
While I don't know the conditions of most sales, I know a guy who works for a Raymour and Flanigan. His thing used to be if you want a couch or table or whatever you come in, fill out some paperwork for a shit ton of furniture so you can get a discount on the couch, then a week later he would have you call saying 'we split up, she's moving out and taking the couch. I can't afford all this shit so I only want the couch' so you only really buy the thing you want as a sale
