Guns are pretty affordable now days, and (almost) everyone should have one...might be stupid expensive next year. As of now, you can cop a EAA Witness in 9mm for like 3 bills. That's a near match ready CZ, basically. There are cheaper pistols that function fine and some people recommend, but I doubt you're going to find anyone who says they compete with a Tangfolio EAA Witness. Maybe that's just me. You can cop a decent quality .308 for the same cost or less. Mossberg had a deal a while back for a .308 for $250 naked. I think it was the ATR. A good gun. I shot it. Better action than the Remjngton we had at the time. Comes with a bipod and cheap scope for a little extra.
And now, thanks to Rosco barrels expanding into the general market after doing oem manufcaturing for so long, you can get a high quality barrel for like 150 bucks. Meaning you can build a good quality AR for like $400-500. Or a cheap AR for less.

Congrats...you're fully armed for a stack. Get the ink later and spend the money on guns and ammo.

On topic. I buy knives all the time. I cut things for a living so...
I buy a new folder once or twice a year, a new fixed blade at least once a year. I don't generally own many expensive knives anymore. If I could afford it, I would collect them. Knives are beautiful to me, and I love the feel of well crafted work. But I use every knife I own, and I haven't ever used a high cost knife who's performance justified the cost over other knives. I can fillet a fish as well with a forschner/victorinox as I can with a shun. And the Forschner is easier to mantain and a lot more forgiving if you drop it.

I've owned kershaw, schrade, victorinox, mora's, sog, bradley's, tops, buck, gerber..etc. Basically, most of the major brands, and a bunch of customs from private makers.

The knives that have become known as good quality "budget knives" have lasted the longest. The Mora is a 15 dollar knife of the god's. wtf. I had a schrade fixed blade go from Alaska glaciers and forests, to chopping keawe in Hawaii. And that is super hard wood. It outlasted my more expensive knives. Had a buck snap and a tops chip out on the edge durng the same amoun of time. Had to trash it since tops only edge hardens. The actual cutting performance n the schrsde sucked though. And I had a folder that cut really well from them, but it fell apart. Cheap knives...but you trade for that cost. There are really good budget knives out there now days I guess but I haven't used them. I'll get me an expensive knife one day, but I no longer see the need in them. Every knife I've owned thst was over 150 dollars was trash. No matter whther they were bought from custom makers or off the shelf.
I think this is more a result of quality levels rising than those knives being poor kives. They were all well made, but quite frankly, Victorinox outperformed every Shun and Wustoff that I have ever owned in the ktchen/restaraunt or fish/game processing. Buck and Mora have outperformed every hunting/belt/bush knife I have ever owned.
The Buck open season series and Mora companion, respectively.

The other side of this coin is that really cheap knives are most often, really shitty.

If you're talking swords, that's a whole nother thang...

I'm about to start making my own shit. Gonna be dope.
