Unfortunately I've never been out of the country, but I got my passport recently. The wife & I are planning to travel somewhere this Spring, but not really sure where. I was thinking London or Amsterdam would be cool, but I'd also like to see Japan, and I think Japan would be an overall cheaper trip, wouldn't it?

For those of you who have traveled internationally, what has been your favorite experience? Anyone been somewhere that most people don't even think of/know of when they think of international travel? How did you find the US Dollar translated in terms of getting hotels, food, gifts, etc. etc.
