Not sure why you'd write a formal letter. During your termination - were you interviewed?
Did they give you a reason for termination and was it solely based of being under the influence?
At that point, you needed to speak up and mention "Having a problem". If you did not, it is your own fault because thats the route I told you to take which you refused because you stated you did not need rehab because you just "Like beer" and "beer is awesome."
I explained the process that's generally taken with most company's here in the USoA. Not sure where you reside or what your labor laws are but here in the USoA - labor laws protect employees from a lot of shit. Even AT WILL employment states have to ensure their T's are crossed and I's are dotted properly before terminating someone.
