fundamentally, the (re:any) individual must sacrifice (rather, tame) aspects of their individuality to function, somewhat agreeably, in societal realms - whether the forum is virtual, as it is here, or physical.
but, there are degrees to this. i was never a particularly agreeable personality in my tenure here but i was highly functional in my intended pursuit (writing). the distinction between tolerating expected patterns of behaviour from predictable people and sycofrantically (i'm coining this) acquiescing to the whim of those you deem greater, is vast.
the problem is most of the melancholic/phlegmatics here fancy themselves dominant cholerics who are above the hive-mind purely because they feebly assert as much, despite their actions being highly dissonant with this notion.
own yourself, people.
