Because stick comes from a tree or plant.
Metal, heaters, cannons ans cans short for cannons make much more sense.
Or just go back to calling every rifle an AK or every pistol a 9 or 4-5th.
Sticks, tho? COME ON...
When you mention stick - a GUN is the last thing that comes to mind.
