"Dear angel..." (2002)

[ topical tourny verse ]

This is my heart and soul..enjoy

Aiiyo, Hey its Thomas, leave a message after the tone for fucking sake
‘’Such a party mouth, any who’s I’m in the hospital with a stomach ache
Don’t worry its nothing major, no need to come and it wasn’t your dad
I…ummm.i..i…. just had a little slip when I tried to jump in to the cab
Its ok, really it is, got to go love ya’’ off the train, from reading a fable
Sprinted home to see mom, got inside and placed my keys on the table
But she wasn’t in sight, I heard the message, I froze…stopped in fright
Then I Ran down the stairs as quickly as possible to unlock my bike
I hope this was nothing serious, as I rode I hoped, prayed with wishing
Just 2 weeks ago I was picking up my moms from getting her new bottled prescriptions
I rode past torn down buildings, old lady sweeping their porch with a broom
And 14 blocks later, I finally reach the hospitals emergency room
She’s in intensive care; oh please god let you turn the tables this week
Armed hooked up to IV, drooling and she Is barely able to speak
Her veins the color purple, oh god I cried, prayed and hoped now
When she got the strength to speak, a strong booming voice had been broke down
Ribs showing, matted hair, right now, I felt like hoping to die
Then the nurse said ‘’c’mon Sybil, your sons here, open your eyes’’
Old wise eyes looking at me with her body stiff, hadn’t visited in days now
Then the nurse whispered, ‘’she might not remember you the medication leave her dazed out
Don’t cha cry now boi, be strong for her’’ was this just a phase or sickness?
I asked the doctor how long she had, and she answered ‘’days or minutes’’
I regret not visiting, she might die…man I was already scared
Went down stairs, to buy her some flowers and a teddy bear
Got back up stairs, and 10 doctors were around her, was this a dream, shit!
Nurse said ‘’that’s her son’’ lead doctor said ‘’I don’t think he should see this’’
Let me at least say my last my last words, I feared this day…
As I walked up to the bed, the large crowd just cleared away
Her dazed look became sharp, just like that..A death sentence..bam!
Put my head down and cried, when somebody clenched my hand
Through her week old makeup, I saw her bight blue eyes, were her ways done?
When the weakest most embarrassed voice said ‘’I have aids, my love
You’re the best son a mother could have; you’re my heart and my sight
And I’d be dead a lonnnng time ago, if I didn’t have you in my life''
She used her last bit of strength to sit up & give me a kiss on my fat cheek
Smiled her brightest smile, laid down peacefully as her heart monitor gave its last beep
The nurse closed my mom’s eyes; in the back the nurse gave the funeral a call…
As I gazed at my mom’s proud smile, I knew things were going to be fine after all
‘‘But grandpa grandpa, don’t you miss her, and don’t be kidding please’’
Yeah, I do, but she’s watching over me, and I bet you right now she’s listening..
