word. first thing i was going to ask was about lucid dreaming.
sleep paralysis is the bastard child of several states of consciousness fuckin with one another to get your attention, each winning and losing in their own way lol.
it's like a reverse day dream... your dreaming and remain dreaming and yet you become conscious of 'reality', but are too deep to wake up.
tends to happen most to people who remember their dreams, recognize they're dreaming, and especially lucid dreamers (which include the past two items anyway).
most people just 'wake up' when they shift consciousness - right when they recognize they are dreaming or recognize they aren't awake. If you can dance the line between brain waves a bit more, you can have some fun by going "lucid" -- or basically the reverse - end up in sleep paralysis lol.
i would imagine "sleeping in certain loud environments which you've grown accustomed to" would trigger it for some people --- e.g. a long roadtrip, sleeping in the backseat, you can basically 'tell you're still traveling', wake up cuz of a bump or something, and still be in your dream and basically feel "frozen"... feels like you want to shout for help but can't say anything to get anyone to wake you up..
shit's like my ultimate dream nemesis lol
