It depends what ur looking for n the severity of said cough but...
Dextromethorphen - cough suppressant (aka dxm... Large doses n ill trip cuz it's a dissociate)
guafastein - expectorant (breaks up mucus n stuff so the cough bc more productive)
now if ur real conjested u may need something more depends on the cough other things indicated in some cough medicine are..
Antihistamine - anything from benadryl to promethazine
. Decrease mucus production (most common w allergies)
or/and
opiates - most common codeine or hydrocodone; slows respiratory function n decreases pain of a deep unproductive cough (mostly indicated w pneumonia/walking pneumonia - n usually accompanied by one if not all the above) - chloroseptic does this to a lesser degree through numbing n counter-irritaton
it all depends on the type of cough, the productivity of the cough and the duration of having the cough
