I think 08-09 was around the time we started to see the shift in what hip hop was. The easiest way I can put it into perspective is to look at the XXL freshmen from those years.
2007 you had: Saigon, Plies, Rich Boy, Gorilla Zoe, Joell Ortiz, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Boosie, Crooked I, Papoose & Young Dro.
-They didn't do one in 2008-
2009 you had: Wale, B.o.B., Charles Hamilton, Asher Roth, Cory Gunz, Blu, Mickey Factz, Ace Hood, Curren$y & Kid Cudi.
In 2007, you have Lupe Fiasco as the obvious outlier. The nerd in a group of thugs.
By 2009, you have Ace Hood as the obvious outlier. The thug in a group of nerds.
