Of course it does...being the best artist = being the best in all artistic categories, the biggest of which is lyricism...where else does the art come from? Sounding good? I dunno if I would consider that art, but it is a talent so I guess it contributes. I understand ghost writers if your main strength lies elsewhere...showmanship, business, producing...do your thing and make your money. But if like Meek your appeal is in your lyrics and what you say and the words you say aren't actually your words...where is the art coming from?
If you had said the best entertainer I would agree.
I do think how often you use ghost writers comes in to play, if you write most of your lyrics but go to someone for a few hot lines to give it that extra something, I don't have a big problem with that, but if all or even most of your shit is written by someone else, I probably won't listen to your music...I find it difficult to care about a rapper who isn't speaking his own thoughts.
