IMO, the verse seemed to be very subtle on purpose as if the gay element of your verse, Certain, wasn't clear. Seems like the verse itself is in the closet.
It's about a guy in love with both a man or boy as well as a girl or woman. It's written as if within the age of innocence from a sex and relationship angle and with that type of risky content, you can't be surprised you lost and with the content being so subtle, you can't expect everyone to see your gay angle to call anyone homophobic. It wasn't that clear.
