English poetry is terrible by definition.
I'm sorry, but it's true. English is a harsh, non-poetic language, and it's not cut out for metaphors, gentle rhyming, or any of that shit - even in the hands of a master poet. Ancient Arabic poetry sounds better than anything in English, even though (or maybe because) you probably can't understand it.
English is a language suited to aggression, wordplays, expansive vocabularies - i.e. technical rap battling, and - to some degree - topicals. People who write poetry in English should quit and learn another language.
