i wanna say it originated in NY, some gang or another, might even be prison gangs, and or it just made its way into prison. instead of killing you they'd just take a razor and run it across your face, in which case you will need like 150 stitches. so the slang turned to buck fifty.

the ambassador got 80 stitches, but it still works since he got his face slashed
