The fundamental ideology behind feminism is complete equality between men and women. It started as a movement for women due to the extreme inequality that reigned back in the day but the main drive and goal was always equal treatment towards both genders.

Just like politics it got different branches to it though so it's easy to get confused when people claim ''yay, feminism is winning'' and showcasing a man getting beat up by a woman when that's actually stepping away from it. That's not what a true feminist would want. For me the important part is to push for equality (while also acknowledging the biological differences in men and women) and say ''wait a minute, you're fucking up'' if someone choose to push for one gender as opposed to find a solution that works for both.
