The most esteemed dictionaries all support the argument that the "g" isn't silent. In fact, they show that the "g" is emphasized. In fact, it's simply "back ground" only as one word.
nobody says backuh ground tho

you basically have to put an extra syllable if ur emphasizing the G.

I mean I know thats the right way to say it, but I'm not gonna way backuh-ground when I'm talking, and especially if I'm rapping.
