what always freaks me out is the fact that before the british were giving smallpox blankets to natives, they had already been decimated from when the spanish landed in the 1400's

there were millions upon millions of natives, what the white men encountered in north america was a measley shell of what once was.

i can't describe it the way i learned/heard it

but when people started colonising north america, they thought it was paradise. there were FORESTS of peach trees. there were paths through thick forests and all along the paths were blueberries and rasberries, there was perfect plains near the fords of rivers where you could build etc.

they thought this land was from god himself.

but nah yo. that plain used to be an indian settlement. those peach tree groves didnt plant themselves. those perfect paths through dense forests were roads carved out by millions of indians

it was something insane, like 90 percent i want to say, of all native americans, were DEAD, before all them dudes were settling jamestown or whatever in north america. when you think of all them indian tribes. the iroquois confederation of tribes, the hurons, the erie, the sioux, cherokee, seminole, whoever. the great indians themselves sitting bull, crazy horse you name it

all those and all the millions that white men slaughtered in the settling of the americas

were part of the 10 percent that didnt die from the plagues that the spanish brought to central america in the late 1400's early 1500's
