Local politics is something I'm really passionate about, national politics never really interested me that much. It's definately something i'd look into again in the future, but def. not any time soon. You have to have money just to be involved with them in the first place.

def not like that in Hawaii (different state by state, but I'd imagine any state that has a policy like that would be the exception). You only make 40k as a state representative, so it wouldn't be big money, but I think I would do a good job (plus most states politicians do it as a second gig IE don't do a good job at it and have obvious conflicts of interest in bills they sponsor etc). idk, Hawaii is a special place with unique challenges, and I'd like to do some kind of social service in a meaningful way.
