Think ab that. 1) "if he be worthy" and 2) "shall possess the power of Thor."
Having a female Thor, unless it's Lady Sif (and even that's a stretch considering the inscription specifically says it must be a man), that doesn't have a rich history with Thor himself is as pc as it gets. And if Thor himself doesn't possess the power of Thor, who is he? You have 2 Thor's in the same Marvel Universe. One without the power that was specifically tailored for him, and another who happens to be female and is "worthy to possess the power" he once had. If this is going to happen..why would she be Thor? Why not somebody else with the power to wield Mjolnir? Her taking Thor's name is progressive claptrap at its best. Instead of making an entirely new character, progressives just assimilate the previous one to capitalize on its legacy.

because people aren't going to talk and cause massive shitstorms over some new female hero. even if she's got her own series, even if she's considered as powerful as Thor. people won't talk. not like they will about this.
It's win/win in terms of marketing. The world is changing. Much to the chagrin of the white male, the world is tired of white male protagonists in everything. All those people who wanna see something new get what they want. People go nuts all over the internet. Even if the some are pissed, it still has a shit ton more people looking at marvel than there was the day before they announced this.
