Well, yes, of course the choice was either they opt out or LeBron leaves. Even if they take big paycuts like you're suggesting, who are they going to add? Gortat and Lowry already signing back with Washington and Toronto. They still can't afford someone like Melo and they don't really have any pieces to trade for Love. Deng already said he's not taking a huge paycut to go play in Miami. Who they gonna get?
