Ironically I work in the canine detection business. A lot of police/military working dogs have a couple of specialties. Whether it be detection or tracking.

Some dogs are racist, some dogs don't like head gear or beards (there's a dog like that at the office) some dogs are even freaked out by small children . But there is a very true saying about a handler and his dog, and that is "whatever you're feeling is gonna travel down the leash." a lot of folk are unaware of how in tune dogs are with their owners. I'm almost certain the dog went after the person his handler felt was most suspicious.
