i'd like to not only take a second to thank those on here who have served (just write, vulgar, etc.) but also take a second to introduce anyone who hasn't come across his work, to Major General Smedley Butler - at one time the most decorated marine in the nation, international speaker, and author of "War is a Racket".

as somebody who never served, or even considered it, i may not have the "right" to condemn any branch of military for their actions. but it is important for us to understand (if not move against) the business enterprises who profit greatly from the loss of life at the hands of militaristic powers both US-based and worldwide. I'm sure this is not news to many of you, but considering the source of this particular work, it's all the more credible and interesting.
dated but still extremely relevant
