@Witty in 2010 the Supreme Court passed a decision in the the Citizens United vs. Federal Elections Commission case that removed limits on campaign contributions from corporations and unions.

This article talked about the recent decision to remove limits on contributing to a an individual politician or political party for individuals, not corporations or unions...yet.

So if I'm a hedge fund manager and don't want to pay taxes, I have my hedge fund give millions to a campaign and I can personally give millions to individual politicians, and suggest to the people I helped get elected to not tax the super wealthy. But of course, this will not oblige or persuade them to push my agendas at all.
