It is supposed to be taken as you read it - and interpreted in your own way. NOT as it was written. Cuz the way it was written.... that shit was accepted back then. Problem is, NOBODY can speak the fluent Arabic of yesteryear - so what ya get is some Imam in modern day mosques preaching shit to you that hes made up from someone who made it up, from someone who made it up. British mosques (for example) are ran by the Saudis and they have a different outlook on Islam. They follow the idea that, as a muslim, you should follow the exact example of Muhammad. This is where the bad side of Islam crops up. And this is where the differences between the Sunni and Shi'a sects comes into play. Muhammad had people killed for saying negative shit about him - so now ya got these crazy extremists that cuz they believe god is infallible, and cuz they follow the religion for how it was wayyyy back in the day, they believe you cannot go against his word or speak negative of him. Shit like that is punishable with death in their eyes. Although this isnt followed by all sects of Islam. Its a minefield - but yea, point is, its EXTREMELY ignorant to believe that all Muslims are of the same beliefs. Get educated!

I don't know enough about Islam to accurately assess what you said, but I will second the fact that it's ignorant to 'hate Muslims.' Because like you said, there are extremists who take the text literally, but not everyone does. Just like there are extremists in every religion.
